I guess it’s about time I phoned home. This blog (among others) has been pretty desolate lately.
Last week I played a round of golf and shot a 118 (ouch!). I had a good time, though, and can now add a new course to the list of courses I’ve played.
Following back-to-back visits to the dentist for cleanings the week before last, I came back in to deal with decaying molars last week. The decay in the first of the two was so deep that the dentist recommended breaking up the work into two separate visits. The second visit happened yesterday, and the molar that, on the x-ray, didn’t appear to be as deep, ended up being deep enough to expose the nerve. Therefore, with my mouth thoroughly numbed, I was feeling that shocking pain you tend to feel when nerves are involved as the dentist was trying to fill the tooth. Because me feeling pain wasn’t part of the plan, he gave me more novacaine and then proceeded to patch my tooth up in preparation for yet another visit. That visit happens tomorrow afternoon, when I’ll end up having the root canal I was hoping to avoid.
On a much lighter note, the Saturday before last my wife and I went to see a matinee showing of The Dark Knight and were thoroughly entertained. I’m very much looking forward to it showing up in 720p online in the coming months.
I also heard very good things from my brother (ironically enough) about Step Brothers, so I’ll have to try and go see that when I get a chance.
On the smaller screen, the beginning of the second season of Mad Men was exceptional, just as I expected it to be, and I’m anxiously awaiting episode 2 (again, in 720p of course).
Now that we are starting to get settled in Austin, I’m finding a few more chunks of time to work on Creativityist. Here are a few notes about the goings on that might be of interest to Creativityist readers:
I added a Resources page. Right now, it is a list of some recommended reads from […]
A couple of weeks ago, I ditched coffee. I was generally a one-iced-mocha-in-the-morning guy with the occasional refresher towards the end of the day.
Bad.
Coffee as part of a routine is kind of like cigarettes as part of a routine. It’s not exactly good for you, and once you’re used to it, you need it […]
This is part of an ongoing series called Blinders where I explore some of the ways I streamline my computer workflows to minimize distractions.
I’m often surprised by how many Mac users I see that aren’t using Spaces. It does require a new way of thinking about the desktop, but once you have put it to […]

Deep-linking for Flex SEO
Closed Published July 28th, 2008 on Ryan Stewart - Rich Internet Application MountaineerI’m planning on doing a Flex SEO contest update this week but I haven’t gotten around to it. Partly because so far I haven’t been happy with the results. A lot of people are putting a bunch of time into the contest (which is awesome) but Google doesn’t appear to be indexing things very well. […]
Flex-based Babble.com Raises Funding
Closed Published July 28th, 2008 on Ryan Stewart - Rich Internet Application MountaineerBabbel.com, a Flex application built to help people learn a new language, just sent me an email saying they’ve raised their first round of funding. the size of the round wasn’t mentioned, but as part of the funding they’re also announcing some new features. One, they’ve converted fully from Flex 2 to Flex 3 (they […]

I meant to post about this when I first heard about it about a week ago, but sometimes things just don’t work out that way. Abby Wambach, star player and leading scorer of the United States women’s soccer team, broke her leg last week, and is expected to be sidelined for about 12 weeks. Because the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing start in two weeks, this means she’ll miss the games and the team will be missing out on their flagship player.
As I’ve said before, Abby is a scoring machine and a dominant presence on the soccer pitch, so to not be able to see her playing with the U.S. team this summer sucks pretty badly. I’ll still be rooting them on, though, and hoping for a speedy recovery for Abby.
What an incredible summer for worldwide sporting events. From the Euro Cup to the French Open and Wimbledon to the Tour De France…. I’ve been able to turn on the tube everyday and watch interesting international sporting action.
And, the Olympics are right around the corner.
It’s been enough to make a Seattlite forget about […]
